What began as a weekly spoken word event in a small restaurant on the west side of downtown Edmonton, is now poised to become the face of spoken word poetry in Edmonton. It was a dream that became a reality on January 27th, 2009 when a small group of poets gathered to share their art. The night has since gained momentum and has featured some of our city’s finest poets and musicians. We are constantly looking for ways to reinvent ourselves while keeping our core values the same. The aim is to represent the great talent that exists in our city by giving spoken word poets from all demographics an opportunity to share their stories. In the spirit of forward movement we introduce The Rouge Poetry Slam. On the last Tuesday of every month 6 poets will compete in the hopes of being crowned the Rouge Poetry Slam Champion. At the end of the slam series, the 5 top scoring poets will go on to represent Edmonton, for the first time ever at the Canadian Festival Of Spoken Word 2010 being hosted in Ottawa.
