Slam Series Kick Off – Recap

Our first ever Rouge Poetry Slam was absolutely amazing! 6 Poets came through with their best work for a chance at 2 spots in the slam series finals. The first round started with poets Andy, Titi, Nikels, Colton, Chris and new comer to Rouge Poetry Danielle. Each poet competing for 4 spots in the final round, a surprise tie led to 5 poets going forward instead. Andy, Danielle, Titi, Nikels and Chris entered into the second round in a bid for the final two spots in round 3. In the end Danielle and Titi battled it out to the finish with Danielle claiming first place with a 0.1 point lead! It was an intense competition to say the least!

DJ Hazel Eyez was on the one’s and two’s and the wonderful ladies of  Chiq Addiction came through to close out our night in style.  All our wonderful photos are courtesy of Kemster Photography The next slam will be on March 9th.

Join us this upcoming Tuesday (March 2) as we join hands with the Palestine Solidarity Network for Poet’s Against Apartheid in commemoration of Isreali Apartheid Week (March 1 – 6, 2010)

BIP @ AfroQuiz

On the afternoon of Saturday, February 20, Titi Sonuga and Ahmed Ali of the BIP Collective performed at Afro Quiz, an event for young Afro-Canadians to show off their trivia knowledge. Titi and Ahmed blew the crowd away while reading one piece each about their perspective of the current events in Africa. Trivia participants also had a great showing earning prizes and respect from all those in attendance. Check our gallery in the upcoming days out for pictures of our eventful week!

February 16th – Recap

Tuesday night was awesome as always with all your favorite poets as well as a few new poets who came through to bless our stage. As a special treat we had TWO guests close out the night. A wonderful RAP performance by Double G of TimelessAftermath follow by some soul stirring R&B by Ian Alleyne. Many many thanks to our poets and musicians!! Stay tuned for pictures from the night.

February 10th – Recap

Tuesday, February 10 was a packed house! Thanks to everyone for coming out. 8 poets came through this evening, and all of them impressed. Old favorites Notebook Nick and Ahmed Ali were in the house, and some new faces added to the sparkle that is Unspoken Tuesdays. The Grim Empire closed out our night with a set that received rave reviews from some of the members in the crowd, we look forward to possibly having them come back in future.
