Summer Slam Wrap up

Firstly, we would like to thank every single person that showed up last night. We cannot express our gratitude, nor emphasize how grateful the Breath in Poetry collective truly is. You guys are thus far one of the best audiences we have had to date. Although Rouge was to its capacity, the waitresses were given no difficulties, and everyone complied to the rules that were set. There was no issue that arose throughout the event either. Thank you for your time, your love for poetry and endless support.  Like Liam and Colin from the 2011 Edmonton Slam Team said, you guys give meaning to poetry.

Thank you to Rouge Lounge/Rose Bowl for being a great venue in and out. The servers were great and so were the owners, the managers and the bar tender.

The Slams!

The Summer Slam poets were at their best. They performed for the joy of sharing their poetry, and the audience showed their appreciation through finger snaps, laughter and thunderous applause afterwards. All the poets did great, be we all know there must be a victor, and the judges made sure of that.

Chow Mien event, Bert, Alexander, Ahmed and Anthony came to compete. They performed for three tough rounds but eventually Bert aka Dirt Gritie succeeded as the 2nd annual Rouge Summer Slam champion. Congratulations on taking first place, it was well earned. Ahmed Ali came in Second and Chow Mien Event in third. We would like to emphasize that all the poets did great and should continue to share their poetry as often as possible.

On to the 2011 Edmonton Slam Team

It was clear from the audience’s reaction that the 2011 Edmonton Slam team, consisting of Mary Pinkoski, Collin Matty, Liam Coady, Chris krueger and Ahmed Ali, put on a great show. Many of the audience members left assured that the team would do exceptionally well this year in Toronto.

If you somehow missed the team, or want to hear more of them, you can catch them at these locations and dates.

Summer Slam Finals Featuring The 2011 Edmonton Slam Team!!

Unfortunately, It’s not summer any longer. But on the bright side, there will be summer heat provided by the poets on Tuesday September 20th at Rouge Lounge. Many poets brought their hearts and souls in the form of poetry and competed against one another to be one of the lucky 8 competing for $200. We urge the poets who did not make it to the finals to continue their art and share it at Rouge.

The 8 poets who will be competing are as follows
Joel
Alex
Bert
Emmanuel
Anthony
Chow Mein Event
Ahmed
Priscilla
These poets are all talented so it should be a wonderful event.

Not only is there the Summer Slam Championships, but we are fortunate enough to have the 2011 Edmonton Slam team feature some of the material they will be taking with them to represent Edmonton and (cross your fingers) come back as champions. (we believe in them!)

The team consists of Mary, Colin, Chris, Liam and Ahmed

Mary Pinkoski ,Ahmed Ali and Chris Krueger were members of the Inaugural 2010 Edmonton Slam team. They anticipate to reach above their 5th place position in last years Canadian Festival of Spoken word.  Also known as CFSW.
Colin Matty and Liam Coady are both new to the team but add to it with exceptional poetry including their backgrounds in acting and improv.

Their diverse style of poetry makes them a threat to teams competing in the 2011 CFSW.

Reminder: There will be a charge of 5$ at the door, but understand the money goes towards supporting our 2011 Edmonton Slam Team. Show begins at 9pm. Arrive early to assure your self a comfortable seat. We are expecting a full house!
Facebook event can be found Here.
See you this Tuesday!

Last Qualifying Salm

Good day wonderful people

We had our last qualifying slam this past Tuesday…..and the results are in!
It was a great turnout. There were no remaining seats on the Rouge side of the venue.
We had tons of new faces which lets us know that the word is spreading.
It seems word of mouth has helped us increase the turn out. Thank you to those that spread
the word of poetry. Power to you!

The first place spot was taken but a new face, and had only been to Rouge 1 time before
slamming. His name is Anthony, and he is a great poet.

Second place was taken by one of the members of Breath In Poetry collective, Gritie.

The night was topped off with some great Vocals and guitar by the wonderful Manuela.
She is a wonderful artist, and has achieved much success. Show her support.
