Titilope is a spoken word poet, her mother’s verse and her father’s rhyme. In January of 2009, she launched “Rouge Poetry”, a weekly spoken word night that features established and aspiring poets and musicians in Edmonton. She competed at CFSW 09 as part of Team Calgary, then returned to Edmonton and introduced the Rouge Poetry Slam which will bring Edmonton spoken word to the national stage for the first time.
Mary Pinkoski is the winner of the 2008 National CBC Poetry Faceoff. Her writing has been called dynamic and visceral. Mary has presented her unique style of spoken word throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Washington. Mary’s first chapbook, “Set List: poems for lonely microphones,” was published by red nettle press.
Ify Chiwetelu is a lover of all forms of artistic expression. Ify looks forward to the 2010 National Slam, to hearing great poetry, and being part of some heated competition. Ify is proud to be a member of the inaugural Edmonton Poetry Slam Team. Ify enjoys referring to herself in third person.
Ahmed Ali is a Somali born Canadian spoken word poet. His love of poetry began at an early age. His inspiration comes from the struggles his father faced in bringing his family to Canada, and his own within it. Ahmed feels that poetry is God’s greatest gift, and should be shared
